As of this weekend we are officially halfway through the colder season. We've changed our clocks to winter time, the nights are now getting even longer than they were a few days ago as it's getting dark early again.

Not all of us love and enjoy this dark season. For most of us, it's more that the cold and the dark aren't our friends. I'm especially concerned with the cold. I'm someone who freezes very quickly and when it's getting colder and colder outside, it means I have to balance my body all the more. I have learned to appreciate the darker and colder seasons, they are important for us, for our rhythm, especially for the rhythm of nature. Instead of looking forward to summer day in and day out, I have learned to celebrate and accept this time properly and I hope that with today's blog post I will be able to pass this on to you as well.

One way I'm embracing the colder seasons and creating more balance in my body is by starting with a hot breakfast. You may know that I like to start the day with fruit. In the following blog post you can learn more about why I always enjoy fruit on an empty stomach and why I love starting the day with fruit.

A few years ago I also discovered Ayurveda for myself. I don't live 100% the Ayurvedic lifestyle when it comes to nutrition and lifestyle in general, but I have integrated some things of the Ayurvedic lifestyle into my everyday life. (if you are also interested in Ayurveda or you have never heard of it: Ayurveda comes from India and is a healing art that is thousands of years old) For example, start the day with something warm. Every day I drink 0.5 liters of warm water and squeeze out some fresh lemon juice. I also love to integrate something warm into my breakfast bowl when it gets colder, such as warm berries or spices that strengthen and warm my body.

Nothing requires as much energy as our digestion. Our body has a temperature of about 37 degrees. So if we start the day with something cold, our body needs a lot of energy as soon as we get up, which we lose right at the beginning of the day.

But isn't it actually the case that you want to start the day full of energy instead of losing a lot of valuable energy in the morning?

Ever since it got darker outside and colder in the mornings, I love starting with my Signature Berry Bowl. Berries are not only full of vitamins and antioxidants, which makes them a true beauty food, but they are also sweet and fruits in general also provide valuable fiber and a lot of moisture, which supplies the whole body with energy. My Signature Berry Bowl also contains cocoa nibs and cinnamon, both of which I personally love very much and which not only have a positive effect on digestion, but also on cravings.

The warm and sweet berries are pure soul food for the body and simply a hug for the soul. If you're not a berry lover, you might want to start with a warm porridge or warm apples with cinnamon. Whatever your heart desires. Connect with your body and feel what is right for it. Sometimes what's right for you is the complete opposite of what's right for me, your friends, or whoever.

Here is the recipe for my Signature Berry Bowl for you:

warm berry banana dream

Ingredients for 1 bowl:

  • 100 g natural coconut yoghurt or yoghurt of your choice
  • 1-2 tbsp cacao nibs
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 banana
  • 250g frozen berries of your choice (fresh berries also work, but the berries are not in season at the moment, so I would recommend buying frozen ones)
  • optionally 1-2 tbsp organic honey (depending on how sweet you like it)

Preparation:

Heat the berries in a small skillet over low, meanwhile, slice the banana and place in a small cereal bowl. Add the berries and the coconut yoghurt. Top with the cinnamon and cocoa nibs and optionally drizzle the honey over it for a little more sweetness and enjoy immediately.

Have fun imitating and enjoying the berry banana bowl and if you want, you are welcome to tag me on social media so that I can see your creations. @deboraswellness or #deboraswellness
