C offee talk with the founder of unmynd

I am very happy to have my first Coffee Talk guest. I met Corinne from unmynd on Instagram and immediately fell in love with her chai latte. Those who have known or followed me for a while may know how much I like to drink my hot chocolate. I drink it in summer and winter and love this brief moment for myself when the world stands still and I can just enjoy the hot chocolate.

The first time I drank Corinne's Chai Latte, I was in love. As a self-confessed chocolate and chai fan, I was just enthusiastic about the combination of chocolate and chai spices.

unmynd Chai is a wonderful combination of raw Criollo cocoa, Chai spices, as well as the superfood Maca and the all-rounder turmeric.

What I love so much about unmynd, the chai has a wonderful sweetness, but it can be enjoyed without regrets because the coconut blossom sugar content is very low. If you still like it sweet, you can add a little more sugar, each as you like it.

DW: Tell us how it all started? How did you get the idea to start unmynd?

Corinne: I came into contact with Chai Latte for the first time when I was doing a language study trip to England in 2011. I wasn't particularly fond of coffee at the time and was very happy with the alternative.
Back in Switzerland, I looked everywhere for a delicious chai latte, but I couldn't find it. I found Chai tea in a bag, but I lacked the creaminess there. In big shops there was the powder form, which I bought from time to time, but the immensely high sugar content and the artificial additives bothered me. Since I still didn't want to do without it, this alternative had to suffice. In restaurants and cafes there was probably the classic hot chocolate, tea and coffee, but the chai latte was not included, which was a shame.

I knew that one day I would like to do something of my own and the thought of a delicious and healthy chai latte always stayed in the back of my mind. Back then I never found the time to do my own project, so all I had was the thought of it.

At the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 I wanted to go on a world tour. I've left everything behind, I've given up my job, my apartment, I've sold all my belongings. I planned to take a year off and travel the world. But everything turned out differently. Because of the pandemic, I was back home at the end of February 2020. I knew I didn't want to look for a job straight away, but at first I thought I'd wait a few weeks for everything to settle down and then go on another trip.

After a few weeks, however, I was still home and that was THE moment. I had to do something and I took the chance to finally put my plan, which had long been in the back of my mind, into practice. I didn't want to waste any more time and so I immediately started looking for information together. I talked to vendors and spice dealers. I got all the information I needed to get started from anywhere.

I quickly realized that I had to create my own recipe, it wouldn't work without my own recipe. So I stood in the kitchen and spent months experimenting on the perfect recipe.

After countless attempts, the perfect combination was finally found. I chose the raw cocoa Criollo base. Its taste convinced me from the start and the base of the cocoa gave the chai powder the creaminess I was looking for. Thanks to the support of cocoa, the chai latte gets the perfect spicy note and you can enjoy a wonderful chai-cocoa note.

DW: How did you come up with the idea to combine your chai latte with superfoods?

Corinne: It was always clear to me that the chai latte should have an advantage. I didn't want a traditional chai latte. Not only should it contain less sugar and thus be a healthy treat, I wanted to bring that extra benefit of superfoods into it. Based on the idea, today's recipe was finally created.

DW: Who is unmynd's target group?

Corinne: Basically everyone. The unmynd Chai is intended for a short break in between. Anyone who would like a pleasure drink, anyone who wants a little break from everyday life, wants to treat themselves to a self-care moment. The unmynd Chai Latte is intended to simply switch off, enjoy, put your feet up and sip on the Chai Latte and be with yourself.

Of course, the Chai Latte also offers the perfect alternative to coffee or tea.

There are a few restaurants, cafés and concept stores in Zurich that have the unmynd Chai in their offer. This offer will certainly be expanded in the future.

DW: Where else can the unmynd Chai powder be used besides the conventional Chai Latte?

Corinne: There are no limits here. I personally also love the iced chai or I like to add some chai powder to my porridge or muesli. If you like to bake, you can of course add some spice powder to your recipe. As the saying goes, imagination knows no bounds.
