T his month I am not only sharing a delicious recipe with you on this blog, but also want this month Dive a little more into the subject of food and energy.

You may know that everything is energy and so is food. Our body needs food to be optimally nourished. The food you eat every day helps you go through each day energized and satisfied. Food gives you energy. We all want to have lots of energy, feel good and be productive throughout the day. To do that, we need food that gives us the energy we want and need.

So which food gives us the most energy?
The answer is clear: food that is optimally digested.

Our digestion is our center. Digestion requires an enormous amount of energy. If it does not function optimally, then a lot of energy is lost, which our body therefore no longer has. Therefore it is very important that you support your digestion with your choice of food.

How do I know that my food is digested optimally?
You will not get a 100% guarantee. You can't look inside yourself and see if everything is completely digested. However, there are a few things you can keep in mind.

focus on easily digestible foods

My love of nutrition started with the fact that I suffered greatly from digestive problems. I was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome in my 20s. I then started to change my diet step by step, focusing more and more on easily digestible foods.

Basically, it is important to keep in mind: What I don't know, my stomach doesn't know either.

I often read the ingredients on a package my kids want to eat to them. For example, if they want to eat cookies, I read to them what all is written on the package. I then ask them, whether they do understand what is in there? They answer NO 99% of the time. So if we don't understand what is in the food we want to eat, how is our stomach going to understand what it is?

Therefore, the rule is, I only eat what I know. You could also say no processed foods, only foods that nature gives us.

For example: Apple, carrot, potato, rice, etc.

minimize the consumption of dairy products

Humans are the only living beings who continue to drink milk after their mother's milk. We do not drink it from our mother anymore, but we drink the mother's milk from cows.

Milk is difficult to digest for many people. The casein contained in milk requires special enzymes so that it can be optimally digested. In addition, milk is highly acid-forming and mucus-forming. This mucus is digested only very slowly in our body. If we eat too many dairy products, our body has a large amount of mucus that needs to be digested. Often the body does not even manage to digest all of it.

eat more food with high water content

Our body consists of about 70% water. To keep the body hydrated, we need to drink enough water. Fruits and vegetables contain a lot of water as well as vitamins and minerals. When we eat vegetables and fruits, the body automatically gets water as well as important nutrients. Therefore, fruits and vegetables are considered the perfect foods because they provide everything our body needs to function and have lots of energy. They are also easy to digest, making them the perfect choice for us.

Now I share with you one of my favorite summer recipes. I eat this dish very often as lunch or even in the evening or as brunch. It's very easy to prepare and enjoy on the go.

Because of the avocado, the meal provides us with healthy fat, it keeps us full and satisfied, the green vegetables provide us with countless vitamins and minerals and the sourdough or whole wheat bread provides us with energy. We get everything we need and only require a few minutes of prep and preparation time.
